Saka confident in Arsenal’s chances of winning Premier League title

UCL: Boniface strike helps Leverkusen seal victory over AC Milan

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka believes this is the year his team can finally lift the Premier League trophy, after finishing second behind Manchester City for the past two seasons, Afrosport reports.

The Gunners, who have not won the league since Arsene Wenger’s ‘Invincibles’ during 2003-04 season, currently sit third in the table, level on points with City and just one point behind leaders Liverpool after six matches.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on us but I do think that this is the year [Arsenal win the title],” Saka told CBS Sports per BBC Sports

“We’ve been close the last two years and we’re getting closer, but this hopefully will be the year.”

In addition to finishing second in the Premier League, Saka has also endured heartbreak on the international stage, having been part of the England team that lost consecutive European Championship finals in 2021 and 2024.

The 23-year-old winger says those disappointments are driving his determination to secure silverware this season, pointing to Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League win over Paris St-Germain on Tuesday as evidence they can compete with Europe’s elite.

“Previous years, I’ve come runners-up a lot. It’s just that spirit in me that I want to win this season and of course, I believe in myself a lot,” he added.

“We believe in ourselves, we believe we’re a top team. We showed that tonight [against PSG]. I did tell the boys we have to make a statement when big teams are coming to the Emirates.”

Saka will be in the thick of the action when Arsenal host struggling Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
