Natalya Antyukh is the latest Russian athlete to be stripped of her Olympic medal.
The gold medallist for the 400m hurdles event at the London 2012 Olympic Games has had her medal stripped on the basis of historical data from a Moscow testing laboratory.
The 41-year-old is currently serving a four-year ban after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) listed her as part of a group of Russian athletes charged with anti-doping violations.
Furthermore, all her results from July 15, 2012, have been disqualified including her 2012 Olympic gold medal, which will be reallocated to American hurdler Lashinda Demus.
This recent development brings the total number of gold medals rescinded in cases of anti-doping violations by Russian athletes following the London 2012 Olympics to three.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will now promote the Czech Republic’s Zuzjana Hejnova to the silver medal and Jamaica’s Kaliese Spencer to the bronze medal position after Antyukh did not appeal against her punishment.
