Real Madrid have opened investigation into allegations of racial abuse directed towards Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal by a section of its fans during their El Clasico clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night, Afrosport reports.
Los Blancos and rivals Barcelona faced off in a matchday 11 La Liga fixture in a showdown that can be tagged as a game of contrasting halves.
Despite their dominance in the first half, the hosts failed to convert any of their chances created with Kylian Mbappe the major culprit as the French forward failed to take any of the chances provided for him.
Barcelona, however, turned up the style in the second half as they scored four past their helpless hosts, as Robert Lewandowski scored twice, with Raphinha and Spanish forward Yamal also on the scoresheet.
However, disturbing clips circulating on social media appeared to capture a Real Madrid fan hurling racist insults at Yamal, which translates to ‘P*to M*ro’.
In the clip, the incident seemed to have happened while Lamal was celebrating his goal with some dance steps, with captain Raphinha taking him away from the shouts from the stands.
Following the incident, Real Madrid has opened investigations and is looking to fish out those involved in the abuse, and the league body, La Liga, is expected to offer an update on the situation in the coming days.
Madrid has also had star player Vinicius Junior racially abused in recent times, with the culprit handed a lengthy ban.
