Rashford: Ten Hag sympathises with Man United forward over online abuse

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he sympathises with Marcus Rashford over the online abuse he has been subjected to.

The England forward has come under constant criticism for his performances this season which have often been below par.

Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions but has only managed to net eight goals across board this term.

He responded to a post on X where he appreciated a user that supported him and Ten Hag called on fans to do the same.

“I have a lot of sympathy for him. So last season, I think he had the best season he has had in his career, he scored 30 goals, and you see what he is capable of,” Ten Hag said ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match with Burnley.

“Then this season, he didn’t give the performances, and people are very critical, and I think we have to back him. Everyone should back him and push him to get back to the levels he was last year.”

According to gaming platform, Pickwise, Rashford was the second most abused athlete online in 2021 behind NBA superstar LeBron James.
