Rangers part ways with coach Van Bronckhorst

Scottish Premiership club Rangers have parted ways with manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst after just a year in charge.

The former Netherlands international, who replaced Steven Gerrard in the managerial seat last November, has been under immense pressure over the side’s recent results with just two wins in their last seven games in all
competitions before the World Cup break.

In a statement released by the club, Rangers chairman Douglas Park thanked the Dutchman for his hard work and dedication to the club over the last year.

“I want to thank Gio for the hard work he has put in over the last 12 months and, especially, the achievements of taking the club to the Europa League final and winning the Scottish Cup last season.

“Unfortunately, recent results have not met neither ours nor Gio’s expectations, and we have taken this difficult decision today. Everyone at Rangers wishes Gio every success in the future.”, Park said.

Van Bronckhorst, 47, joins Pedro Caixinha and Paul Le Guen on the list of short-serving managers in the club’s history.

The Scottish Premiership side sits in second place in the Scottish Premiership, nine points behind eternal rivals Celtics after a series of underwhelming performances.

Rangers will face Hibernian in a Scottish Premiership clash on December 15 after the restart.
