Raheem Sterling departs Chelsea by mutual consent

Ex-Aston Villa foward Agbonlahor hits out at Sterling treatment by Chelsea

Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea by mutual consent, bringing his nearly four-year stint at Stamford Bridge, Afrosport reports.

The 31-year-old joined Chelsea from Manchester City in a £47 million deal in the summer of 2022 when Thomas Tuchel was manager.

He made 81 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 15 assists.

“Raheem Sterling has today departed Chelsea Football Club by mutual agreement, bringing to an end three-and-a-half seasons as our player,” read a club statement said.

“We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career.”

Sterling last played for Chelsea in May 2024 and fell out of favour with former boss Enzo Maresca. He spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal but failed to make significant impact.

The ongoing 2025-26 season saw him entirely frozen from the first team, and was made the train after his teammates have left and made to use a different building. This led to criticism from the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) and former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor.

Sterling had 18 months remaining on his contract worth a reported £325,000 per week, making him the highest paid player in the team.
