Premier League: FA charges Hurzeler, Forest’s Nuno & Gibbs-White over red cards

The Football Association has charged Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, as well as Brighton and Hove Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler following the red card they all received in Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton and Forest extended their unbeaten start to the new season with an exhilarating 2-2 stalemate. However, the red cards received by the trio cast a shadow over the performance of the two teams.

Forest’s No. 10 Gibbs-White was sent off by referee Robert Jones in the 83rd minute, after the English midfielder was issued his second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Brighton forward Joao Pedro.

The decision to send Gibbs-White off sparked angry reactions on the sidelines, between Nuno and Hurzeler, who were both sent off for unacceptable technical-area behaviour.

Both coaches are being charged with acting in an improper manner, with Nuno also alleged to have used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official.

Gibbs-White was also charged with acting in an improper manner and/or using abusive and/or insulting words towards fourth official Anthony Taylor.

The FA statement on Tuesday reads: “Fabian Hurzeler, Nuno Espirito Santo and Morgan Gibbs-White have been charged following the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest on Sunday, 22 September.

“It is alleged that the Brighton and Hove Albion head coach acted in an improper manner around the 83rd minute. The Nottingham Forest head coach allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official around the 83rd minutes.

“It is alleged that the Nottingham Forest midfielder acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official around the 83rd minutes after being sent-off.”

The trio have until Friday, September 27 to respond to the charges. However, as a result of their current situation, Nuno and Gibbs-White will miss their home league game against Fulham on Saturday, while Hürzeler will also miss Brighton’s visit to Chelsea Stamford Bridge on the same day.
