Premier League: Abandoned Bournemouth & Luton clash to be replayed in full

The abandoned tie between Bournemouth and Luton Town after Tom Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest, will be replayed in full, a statement released by the Premier League Board on Wednesday confirmed.

The league match, which was played last Saturday, was abandoned after the Welsh defender and Luton captain collapsed while in action at the Vitality Stadium, forcing referee Simon Hooper to call off the game with the scores level at one apiece.

Lockyer received urgent medical care on the field before being carted off on a stretcher, to huge applause from the fans.

The Premier League statement, which revealed that the match would be rescheduled for a later date in the season, read: Following the on-field medical emergency involving Luton Town FC player Tom Lockyer, the Premier League Board has decided last Saturday’s AFC Bournemouth v Luton Town FC fixture will be replayed in full.

“The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be confirmed following consultation with relevant parties.

“The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively between the match officials, players, managers from both clubs and the Premier League.

“The League would like to thank the medical staff and all those involved for their swift actions in responding to what was an extremely upsetting situation for everyone.

“We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and all those at Luton Town FC.”

A thumping header from Elijah Adebayo was cancelled out by Dominic Solanke’s effort before the match was called off.

Luton also said on Sunday that Lockyer remained in the hospital but said they would not provide a “running commentary” on the health of their defender.
