‘Playing for Man United is always a dream’ – Ivory Coast’s Amad Diallo reflects on FA Cup-winning performance

Amad Diallo stated that playing for Manchester United is always a dream after he netted the winner in the Red Devils’ 4-3 extra victory in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Scott McTominay put Erik ten Hag’s men in front before Alexis Mac Allister and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool a 2-1 lead going into the break.

Substitute Antony scored in the 87th minute to force extra time and while Harvey Elliott scored in the 105th minute to hand the advantage back to Liverpool, Marcus Rashford levelled things to make it 3-3 before Amad, who came on for Raphael Varane in the 85th minute, finished off brilliantly in the final minute of extra time to send Old Trafford into raptures.

The 21-year-old’s moment of joy was however cut short after he received a second yellow card for removing his shirt while jubilating and was sent off.

“I was last season at Sunderland and my dream was to play for Manchester United,” Amad told the club website.

“So I am here to dream every moment.

“Every moment is like a dream. In the training, in the pitch, every year is a friend for me.

“I am very happy to score today.”

He further added: “For United, every game is a Champions League final.

“Every team wants to beat Manchester United so United need to win every game.

So if you want to win every game, you need to play like [it is the] Champions League final.

“And I think today we see what Manchester United are doing on the pitch.

“And I think we deserve that win.”

Amad’s goal was only his second for Manchester nited since he joined from Atalanta in the summer of 2020. It was also his fourth appearance this season since returning from a knee injury in late December.

United will now get to face Coventry City in the semi-finals next month.
