Manchester City lost for the second successive game in the Premier League and fourth straight in all competitions following a 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
City dominated the first half and rightly opened the scoring with a 23rd-minute strike from Erling Haaland, his 12th goal in 11 Premier League games this season. The Norwegian reacted quickly to poke home a rebound after Brighton’s goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen saved his initial effort.
The first half ended with City in front, but the second half was a completely different story, with Brighton looking like a different team entirely. They outclassed the visitors for most of the half and were rewarded with a leveller in the 78th minute through Brazilian forward Joao Pedro, 13 minutes after coming on as a substitute.
The Seagulls completed the comeback five minutes later through another substitute, Matt O’Riley, whose one-touch finish beat Ederson.
The victory moved Brighton into fourth place in the Premier League standings, while City, who remained second with 23 points, lost their second game of the season.

Elsewhere, at Anfield, league leaders Liverpool capitalized on City’s woes as they defeated Aston Villa 2-0 to extend their lead at the top to five points.
Arne Slot’s men got in front through Darwin Nunez in the 20th minute after the Uruguayan forward finished past Emiliano Martinez after a lightning-fast counterattack following a Villa corner.
The Reds got their second goal in the 84th minute thanks to a sublime finish from Mohamed Salah, who scored his eighth league goal of the season. After a poor clearance from Diego Carlos, the Egyptian Another quickly raced down the right wing before slotting the ball past Martinez.
Liverpool, unbeaten in their last seven matches in the Premier League, have now accumulated 28 points, while Villa lost their fourth straight game in all competitions for the first time since April 2022.
