PL: Mbeumo, Dorgu help Man United claim derby bragging rights over Man City

Man City agree deal to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace

Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu were on the score sheet as Manchester United defeated crosstown rivals Manchester City 2-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

It was the first game for Michael Carrick in his second stint as interim manager while Mbeumo and Amad Diallo returned to the starting XI following their participation at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Red Devils could have been 2-0 up at half time but the efforts of Amad and captain Bruno Fernandes were ruled out by VAR for offside.

After more than an hour of searching for the game’s first goal, the floodgates finally opened in the 65th minute when Fernandes fed Mbeumo to finish off brilliantly.

United’s lead was doubled in the 76th minute when substitute Matheus Cunha laid the ball for Dorgu to score his second goal of the club.

Carrick’s men thought they were 3-0 in added time after substitute Mason Mount had the simplest of finishes but VAR ruled it out for offside once again.

The result temporarily took United up to fourth, tied on 35 points with fierce rivals Liverpool. The Reds are however one point ahead following their 1-1 with Burnley at Anfield.


Meanwhile, Man City are seven points behind leaders Arsenal after the Gunners played out a a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

In other Saturday results, a Joao Pedro goal and a Cole Palmer penalty handed Chelsea a 2-0 win over Brentford in Liam Rosenior’s first league game in charge of the Blues.

Leeds United defeated Fulham 1-0, Sunderland defeated Crystal Palace 2-1, likewise West Ham United away at Tottenham Hotspur.
