PL: Elanga scores only goal as Nottingham Forest edge past Man Utd

Anthony Elanga scored against his former club as Nottingham Forest secured a 1-0 home win against Manchester United to tighten their grip on a top four finish, Afrosport reports.

Elanga found the back of the net with a brilliant goal in the fifth minute after a solo run from a resulting Unite corner kick.

The Sweden international almost ran the entire length of the City Ground pitch before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of Andre Onana’s post for his sixth Premier League goal of the season.

United came close to levelling the scores in the 28th minute, but Diogo Dalot’s looping header from a Bruno Fernandes corner kick hit the crossbar.

Harry Maguire replaced Leny Yoro late in the game, with the Englishman instructed to play upfront as a makeshift striker beside Rasmus Hojlund.

The England international came close to getting United on the scoresheet late on, but his header from Patrick Dorgu’s cross went wide.

He almost drew United level once again after a goalmouth melee. A cross from Noussair Mazraoui was not properly dealt with by the Forest defence and the ball fell to Maguire, whose close-range strike was cleared off the line by Murillo.

The result earned Forest their 17th win of the season, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men in third position with 57 points.

United, meanwhile, lost their 13th league game this campaign and remained 13th with 37 points.
