PFA Awards: Saliba, Van Dijk & Watkins make Premier League Team of the Year

Manchester City and Arsenal players dominated the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year announced during the PFA awards ceremony on Tuesday.

Five players from the Gunners as well as four players from the title-winning City team made up the star-studded side, while one each from Liverpool and Aston Villa made up the XI.

For Mikel Arteta’s men, team captain Martin Odegaard and big money signing Declan Rice led the way in midfield, and the defensive duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as well as David Raya, who won the league’s Golden Gloves for keeping the most clean sheet last season, made the cut.

Meanwhile, the quartet of Kyle Walker, Rodri, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden all featured for City, who clinched a historic fourth straight Premier League title last season.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who was making his fourth appearance in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, and Aston Villa’s talismanic forward Ollie Watkins, who scored 19 league goals and provided 13 assists in 37 games, filled the two remaining spots.
