Paul Pogba is hopeful of making a return to the France national team after he was officially unveiled as an AS Monaco player on Thursday, Afrosport reports.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined the Monegasque outfit on a free transfer and signed a two-year deal after coming back from an 18-month doping ban.
Pogba has been capped 91 times for France, with whom he won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but has not played for Les Bleus since March 2022 due to injuries and the doping ban.
“It’s the wish of every French football player to represent the France national team, but there are stages,” the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder said at his Monaco unveiling.
“Today I’m at stage one: coming back and performing well.
“There are spots to be won and you have to earn them because it’s a very, very good group, a great team.”
Meanwhile, fellow new Monaco signings Ansu Fati and Eric Didier are thrilled about Pogba’s arrival and are looking forward to working with him.
Fati stated: “Everyone knows what a player Paul Pogba is, I’m very happy he’s signed for AS Monaco. I think the whole of football is happy to see him back. He was one of the best players wherever he played, whether for club or country. I hope we have a great year together to help get the club back to where it needs to be.”
Dier said: “It’s a great arrival for the Club and Ligue 1 in general to have such a player preparing to play in the championship. I’ve had the opportunity to face Paul Pogba on numerous occasions in the Premier League. I know the extent of his talent, and I’m really looking forward to playing alongside him.”
