Paris 2024: Tobi Amusan named Nigeria’s flag bearer, Opeyori selected team captain

World record holder Tobi Amusan has been selected as Nigeria’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Ogun state-born hurdler, will lead the Nigerian contingent when the opening ceremony takes centre stage on July 26 at the Seine, the city’s main water artery.

Amusan is the current world record holder in the 100 metres hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds, which she set at the 2022 World Athletics Championships women’s 100 metres hurdles semi-final in Eugene, Oregon.

She is also the current Commonwealth and African champion in the 100 metres hurdles, as well as the meet record holder in those two competitions.

Similarly, Africa’s top-rated Badminton player, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, has been named Team Nigeria’s captain for the Games.

Opeyori is a two-time African Games men singles gold medalist and also has four gold medals at the African Senior Badminton Championships.
