Nigeria’s biggest hope of a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Tobi Amusan, failed to make the final of the women’s 100m hurdles final after finishing third in Heat 1 of the semifinals earlier today.
The 27-year-old world record holder, who didn’t enjoy the best of starts, ran a time of 12.55s to finish behind American Grace Stark (12.39s) and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who clocked a time of 12.50s.
Amusan was made to wait for the two other heats with the hope of making it through. However, her hopes were shattered after Heat 3, where four athletes booked qualification to the final, with reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn leading the pack with a season’s best 12.35s.

The Nigerian came into Paris in great form, having won the 100m hurdles gold medal in the Diamond League in 2023 as well as at the 2023 African Games held in Ghana earlier this year.
She qualified for the semifinals at the Olympics by finishing first in Heat 1 on Wednesday in a time of 12.49s. However, her hunt for a first Olympic medal continues as she will miss out on the final alongside reigning world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica, who finished sixth in Heat 1.
The women’s 100m final is scheduled to take place on the penultimate day of the Paris 2024 Olympics—Saturday, August 10, at the Stade de France.
