Paris 2024 Paralympics: Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle reaches Para-table tennis semifinals

Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle says he is looking forward to winning the class 4 Para-table tennis gold medal at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, but admits he is aware that he must first win his semi-final clash with South Korea’s Kim Young-gun on Saturday.

As he intensifies preparations for the clash with reigning World number two, Kim Young-gun, the Nigerian exclusively told Afrosport that the aim is to deliver the Gold medal.

He said: “I have full confidence because I have beaten some top-seeded players in the event, by God’s grace I will deliver the Gold.

“My semi final is against a Korean (Kim Young-gun), we have met before but it will be different this time around, I will deliver the Gold.

“Although it will be difficult, I know I have to play the semi-final first, but the preparation is on and I have to sustain my winning mentality.”

Ogunkunle stunned reigning Paralympic champion, Turkey’s Abdallah Ozturk 3-1 (6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 12-10) in the round of 16.

He also defeated world number six and home favourite Maxime Thomas 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6) in the quarter-final.
