The Nigerian trio of Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Ochonogor have made history in the Paris 2024 Olympics, as they secured a spot in the final of the women’s long jump.
Their impressive performances in the qualification round at the Stade de France on Tuesday ensured that for the first time ever, three Nigerian women will participate in the women’s long jump final at the Olympics.

Brume, a bronze medallist from the Tokyo 2020 Games, needed a big result in her final attempt to clinch a third consecutive Olympics final appearance, recording a jump of 6.76 meters to surpass the automatic qualification mark and finish fourth on the standings.
Usoro secured a final berth with a leap of 6.68m to finish fifth on the qualification table, while Ochonogor finished two spots behind in seventh with a 6.65m leap to pick up one of the non-automatic tickets in the final.
The three Nigerians will be among the 12 athletes jostling for a podium finish when the final commences on Thursday, July 8, by 8 p.m. Nigerian Time.
