The 32-year-old Wakama led the team to the quarter-finals of the Olympics, becoming the first African team to achieve such feat in either the men or women’s category.
The reigning African Champions defeated World number three, Australia 75-62 in what was the team’s first win at the Olympics since the 2004 edition in Athens.
Despite losing 75-54 to hosts France in their second group game, the Wakama-led D’Tigress returned with a 79-70 win against Canada to book a quarter-final spot.
The team bowed out in the quarter-final after losing 88-74 to eventual champions, United States of America.
