Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira has taken aim at winning more titles than former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Afrosport reports.
Palmeiras faced Red Bull Bragantino in the Brazilian Campeonato Paulista on Tuesday night with the game ending goalless.
The game had Klopp, who is now Red Bull’s head of global soccer, in attendance, and when Abel Ferreira was asked about the performance of Palmeiras, who had no shot on target, he took aim at having move silverware in a short space of time than Klopp did in his almost nine years at Anfield.
“I am a project manager. Even today, there is a man named Klopp who has won fewer titles in his eight years at Liverpool than I have. Eight years!,” the Portuguese tactician said.
“So, don’t talk about being hungry for titles, because that isn’t relevant. It’s at my root. That man, Klopp, has been at Liverpool for eight years and has won fewer trophies than we achieved here in just four or five years. As I said, I am a project manager, and that will not change.”
He continued: “It makes more sense than ever to be united this year because every year, it is more difficult to win, contrary to popular belief. Klopp spent eight years with Liverpool and has retired.
“I’m going to think about it, I’m going to try to talk to him and understand what he’s doing now, at 60 years old, as a technical advisor.
“I’m trying to understand what this profession is, this new profession where he visits clubs and talks to coaches. It’s a new profession, but not now. Now I want to give my blood for this club and keep winning trophies for it.”

Abel Ferreira joined Palmeiras in 2020 and has won 10 titles with Palmeiras, including two Copa Libertadores.
Klopp meanwhile spent eight-and-a-half-years at Liverpool between 2015 and 2024, winning eight titles including one UEFA Champions League and Premier League title.
