Otto’s lob to Partey’s stunner: Ranking top five Premier League goals of the season

With the 2022/23 Premier League season nearing its climax, hundreds of goals have been scored by the 20 teams much to the excitement of football enthusiasts.

Numerous stunners and a plethora of jaw-dropping goals have been scored in the English top-flight this campaign, Afrosport ranks the best goals to make our top-five selection.

5. Ivan Toney  (Brentford vs Leeds United, September 3, 2022)

The Englishman was the centre of attraction at the Brentford Community Stadium when he scored a hattrick with a variety of captivating goals.

A well-taken penalty was followed by a free-kick which shared the similitude of picture-perfect artistry on a canvas.

Our pick of the bunch was his delightful chip to complete his hattrick, but for the temerity and guile with which he took to it. Just perfect!

4. Jonny Otto (Wolves vs Leeds United, March 18, 2023)

Everybody loves a worldie and for a player who has the audacity to attempt a lob from 44 yards, Oto’s goal definitely makes the cut for our top five Premier League goals of the season.

Leeds United were the unfortunate customer again as Spanish left wing-back  Otto was at alert when Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier came out of his 18-yard box to make a headed clearance but his teammate miscued it to Otto who converted with aplomb.

3. Oliver Skipp (Tottenham vs Chelsea, February 27, 2023)

A scourger of a goal can do either heighten the tensions of a stadium or shut down the loud voice of roaring fans.

Skipp’s outrageous effort did the former as the goal gave Tottenham Hotspur a lead in front of their home fans, and what an occasion to do it; in a derby against London rivals Chelsea.

Skipp will never forget the goal either as it was his first goal for Spurs.

2. Thomas Partey (Arsenal vs Tottenham, October 1, 2022)

A big goal for the big occasion by the Ghanaian international from outside the penalty area.

To prove the goal was no fluke, Partey did a replica of the same effort against Nottingham Forest later on in the season.

1. Erling Haaland (Southampton vs Man City, April 29, 2023)

Perhaps this is the easiest to pick amongst a number of many other top goals scored this season.

Everybody loves an acrobatic effort but this instance transcends beyond the dexterity in execution and unto the will to show the world how great a mercurial talent he is.

Haaland’s effort was a replica of another bicycle kick he scored during his days at Borrusia Dortmund, in a derby against arch-rivals Schalke 04.

To do it again showed that his abilities and his goal-scoring efforts are as surreal as it gets, and he deserves all the plaudits and accolades coming his way.
