Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen continued his fantastic run of form for Napoli with a brace and an assist against Juventus in a Serie A clash at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Friday.
The 24-year-old opened the scoring with a header in the 14th minute after reacting quickly to a rebound from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s strike.
The Nigerian and the 21-year-old Georgian combined again for Napoli’s second goal in the 39th minute, with Osimhen turning provider.
2022 FIFA World Cup winner Angel Di Maria pulled one back for the Old Lady before the break, but the Partenopei were too strong for the 36-time champions with their rampant performance in the second half.
Center-back Amir Rrahmani got Napoli’s third goal with a powerful strike that left Juventus’ goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny rooted to a spot after a well-taken corner kick by Kvaratskhelia.
Osimhen completed his brace with another header in the 65th minute, thanks to Kvaratskhelia’s second assist of the night.
Eljif Elmas piled more misery for Massimiliano Allegri and his players with a solo goal that deflected off Alex Sandro before beating Szczesny in the 72nd minute.
Osimhen has now scored 12 goals in the Italian top flight this season, and he is just two goals shy of his best scoring season in the Serie A.
The defeat was a disappointing one for the away team as Napoli secured all three points to open a 10-point gap at the top of the table.
The victory was Napoli’s fourth straight home win over Juventus, a feat the home side has achieved just once before, and it was also the first match the Old Lady had conceded a goal in eight league matches.
Osimhen and Napoli will turn their attention to the Coppa Italia, where they will take on bottom-placed Serie A team, Cremonese.
