Osimhen, Musa lead Super Eagles 23-man squad for AFCON qualifiers

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has released his 23-man squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.

The 62-year-old manager included a number of familiar faces, with the in-form Napoli forward Victor Osimhen leading a list of household names that include team captain Ahmed Musa, Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi, and Spanish-based center back Kenneth Omeruo.

 

Nice striker Terem Moffi, Southampton Centre forward Paul Onuachu and Villareal winger Samuel Chukwueze were also named in the squad. In the absence of goalkeepers Madueke Okoye and Daniel Akpeyi, Rivers United shotstopper Victor Sochima and Chijioke Aniagboso, who recently represented the Flying Eagles at the just concluded U-20 AFCON got the nod, while Daniel Bameyi, the captain of the Flying Eagles also got called up for the injured William Troost-Ekong.

Nigeria head into the crucial double-header tie against the Djurtus as Group A leaders with two wins from their first two games. They will welcome their West African counterpart to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday, March 24 before heading to the Estadio 24 de Setembro for the second leg.
