Osimhen allays injury fears after opening Galatasaray goal account

Victor Osimhen scores twice as Galatasaray relinquish three-goal lead against Kasimpasa

Victor Osimhen has allayed any fears of serious injury after he was taken off in Galatasaray’s 3-3 Turkish Super Lig drawer with Kasimpasa on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The Nigerian forward finally opened his goal account for the Istanbul giants by scoring a first half brace after a run of providing three consecutive competitive assists.

Osimhen was however taken off at the start of the second half due to an injury and was replaced by former Belgium International Dries at the start of the second half.

It raised concerns about the seriousness of the injury but the 25-year-old stated that it was only a little discomfort.

“I do not have a serious injury. I felt a little discomfort,” he told the club website. “I thought I should tell my coach. If I reduced the team, it would be bad.

“I did not want my teammates’ performance to decrease. I told Mauro [Icardi] and the coach. That is why I left the game.”

Despite scoring in Galatasaray colours for the first time, Osimhen was unhappy with the result as the Yellow-Reds surrendered a 3-1 first half lead to ultimately draw.

“We are unhappy as a team. We deserved three points. Football is like that sometimes. You can play the way you deserve and not win,” he added.

“I am happy to score two goals. We are all unhappy because of the draw. We need to work hard and focus on winning the next match. I was happy with my own performance but we will work harder and try to do better in the upcoming matches.”

He also spoke of the good relationship he has with teammate and Argentine forward Mauro Icardi: “I have a good relationship with Mauro. He is a leader. He protects us all. He is also a big brother to me. It is a great feeling for me to play next to him. Everyone must see that. We celebrate our goals together.”

Osimhen’s brace against Kasimpasa saw him become the first player to have four or more goal involvements in his first three league games for Galatasaray since Bafetimbi Gomis in 2017.

Okan Buruk’s men will turn their attention to the Europa League trip to RFS FC of Latvia on Thursday.
