Victor Osimhen has acknowledged the impact of his Galatasaray teammates after setting a club goal record in Wednesday’s Turkish Cup triumph over Trabzonspor, Afrosport reports.
The Super Eagles forward scored twice to take tally for the season to 35 goals, becoming the highest scoring foreigner in a season in Galatasaray’s history.
He was also the first player to score twice in the cup final for the Istanbul giants.
All of Osimhen’s goals were assisted by Yunus Akgun, who also assisted Baris Yilmaz for the first goal
“I think the record is of course a great thing, but I would like to thank my teammates very much. Especially today, Yunus was very unifying,” the 2023 African Player of the Year told the club website.
“Goals make me happy, of course, but I want to reciprocate the support my teammates have given me since goals.
“I am very happy to score goals, but it is a separate pleasure for me to go down in the history of this great club. We will continue to fight until the end of the season.”
Osimhen also waxed lyrical about the Galatasaray fans, and vowed to give his best until the season concludes.
“I really can’t stand it, they show me so much love. There is a fan base here that gives everything for the team. There is an incredible passion that I have never seen in my career,” he added.
“Finally, I have to make a very big decision. Everyone at the club, the fans, my family have been really supportive throughout this process. I would also like to thank my daughter and send my regards from here.
“I will continue to give everything for the team until the end of the season. Then we will make our decisions.”
