Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala was the recipient of the Pichichi trophy for her goal-scoring exploits in the Spanish women’s league.
The award is given out each season by Spanish news outlet Marca to the highest goal scorer in the league, and the trophies were presented at a ceremony in Barcelona on Monday night.
Oshoala was the joint winner of the women’s award with Brazilian striker Geyse da Silva Ferreira who played for Madrid CFF last season.
The duo scored 20 goals for their respective clubs in the 2021–2022 season.
The four-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year endured an injury-prone 2022 but she still managed to find the back of the net to earn her Pichichi award.
Ferreira, who is now a Barcelona player, almost scored all of Madrid CFF’s goals last season and she was vital to their survival in the Primera Division before securing a move to their rivals Barcelona earlier in the year.
FC Barcelona Femeni were crowned champions of the Spanish women’s league last season, with an unblemished record of 90 points from 30 matches with a record of 156 goals scored and 11 conceded.
