Oshoala, Nnadozie make final shortlist for 2023 CAF Awards

The Confederation of African Football announced on Monday the final shortlist for the women’s categories of the CAF Awards 2023.

Ten players have been selected from the initial list of 30 for the prestigious Women’s Player of the Year honor. However, the other categories, which include Interclub Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year, have five nominees each.

Super Falcons duo Asisat Oshola and Chaimaka Nnadozie have both made the final ten-player shortlist, with the latter also up for the Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Oshoala, a record five-time winner, will battle for the honor alongside some of the biggest names in African women’s football, like Morocco’s Ghizlaine Chebbak, Hilda Magaia of South Africa, and Zambian forward Barbra Banda.

Nnadozie, on the other hand, will face stern competition from Khadija Er-Rmichi (Morocco, AS FAR) and the South African shot-stopping duo of Andile Dlamini and Kaylin Swart.

The Nigerian senior women’s team will battle four other nations for the National Team of the Year award, while youngsters Deborah Abiodun and Esther Ajakaye have a chance at winning the Young Player of the Year award.

The Super Falcons’ American handler, Randy Waldrum, is also in the running for coach of the year.

The ultimate winner of each category will be decided after votes from a voting panel consisting of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from member associations, head coaches and captains of member associations, and clubs involved in the group stages of the interclub competitions.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place on Monday, December 11, at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco.
