Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur has called it quits on the 2024 WTA season following battles with a shoulder injury, the World No. 22 announced on Monday.
Jabeur, who has found it tough to replicate the form that saw her surge to second position in June 2022, will no longer play a part in this tennis season.
Having failed to win any titles, the 30-year-old ends the season with a 16-14 record. She missed the Paris 2024 Olympics following concerns with a knee problem, before withdrawing from both the Cincinnati Open and US Open due to ongoing shoulder issues.
Jabeur took to social media to inform fans of her decision after a year that she tagged as “extremely hard”.
She wrote: “This year has been extremely hard for me, and as athletes, we know that recovery is part of the journey. Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I’ve made the difficult decision to step off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season.
“While I’m taking time to heal, I’ll be dedicating myself to charity work and ensuring that we make a real difference in the world,” the Tunisian concluded.
