Onana: Ten Hag urges Cameroon goalkeeper to improve

Onana: Ten Hag defends Cameroon goalkeeper despite questionable Man United form

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has called on Andre Onana to improve after coming under scrutiny for his performances between the sticks since his move from Inter Milan this summer.

The Cameroon shot stopper has constantly been seen as not measuring up to the long-serving David de Gea who left Old Trafford this summer after 12 years with the club.

Ten Hag, who managed Onana at Ajax Amsterdam, has always backed the goalkeeper, and believes he will eventually come good.

“He knows [he’s not been good enough], we know, he will do much better,” Ten was is ahead of Man United’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United.

“As with every player who’s coming into the Premier League, you need an integration period but he has to step up. Big United keepers like Peter Schmeichel and David De Gea started [slowly] and Andre knows that it is good to know a little bit from history.

“We live now, we live in the future and he has to make his future by giving better performances. I’m sure he will do. He showed it at Barcelona, Ajax, Inter Milan, he was in the semi-final and the final of the Champions League, I’m sure he will give a great performance.”

Man United sit in 10th place on the Premier League table with 12 points after eight games, winning four matches and losing as many games.
