Onana: Man United boss Ten Hag confident Cameroon goalkeeper will bounce back from Galatasray error

Onana: Ten Hag defends Cameroon goalkeeper despite questionable Man United form

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is confident that Andre Onana will bounce back after his error in the Red Devils’ 3-2 defeat at home to Galatasray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Cameroon goalkeeper has come under the spotlight for supposedly being error-prone and did so in the build up to the penalty that was awarded to Galatasray by making a poor pass. It left Casemiro under pressure and resulted in the Brazilian midfielder fouling Dries Mertens in the box.

Though Mauro Icardi missed the penalty, Onana’s error did not go down well with some United fans that believe he does not measure up to former long-serving keeper David de Gea but Ten Hag still has faith in the Cameroonian’s abilities.

“We are happy with our goalkeeping group. Definitely with Andre (Onana). Andre, come on, he was in one semi-final of the Champions League. Last season, he was in the final of the Champions League,” Ten Hag stated.

“He has the capabilities to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He showed that and he will do. We already have seen in games his great capabilities, also his personality. If he makes a mistake, he will bounce back.”

Onana has only kept three clean sheets in 10 competitive games this season and will hope to do so when United host Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday before the international break.
