Onana completes loan move from Man Utd to Trabzonspor

UCL: Hansi Flick highlights Barcelona problem despite win over Dortmund

Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has sealed a season-long loan move from Manchester United to Trabzonspor, Afrosport reports.

The 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at United, with Turkish shot-stopper Altay Bayindir starting all three of their Premier League games this season. The Red Devils also brought in 23-year-old goalie Senne Lammens in an £18.1 million from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

His move to Trabzonspor comes before the close of the Turkish transfer window on Friday, and the club revealed that the transfer is subject to international clearance and registration.

“An agreement has been with Manchester United regarding the free temporary transfer of professional footballer Andre Onana to our club for the 2025-2026 season,” a statement from the Turkish club read.

Onana joined United in the summer of 2023 for £47.2m from Inter Milan, reuniting with Erik ten Hag, his former Ajax boss. He has conceded 150 goals in 102 appearances for the club and was part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 2024.

However, his time at Old Trafford has not gone as planned, owing to high-profile errors. His only appearance this season came in their disappointing League Cup exit against fourth-tier Grimsby.

Onana was in action for Cameroon in this month’s qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and is expected to make his Trabzonspor debut in their Turkish Super Lig clash against Fenerbahce on Sunday.

Meanwhile, United are up against arch-rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on the same day and it is left to see who will start in goal for Ruben Amorim’s side.
