Nigeria’s Omotosho Samson will begin his quest for glory this Friday when he opens his campaign at the 2nd African Skate Games in Cairo, Egypt.
Samson is Nigeria’s sole representative at the tournament and he will be competing in the senior category of the Inline Freestyle Championship with the hope of making a podium finish at the games.
In his debut appearance at the multi-level competition, the athlete has pledged to hoist the national flag in an effort to promote the country while in the North African nation.
The Roller Sports Federation of Nigeria’s athlete left the country on Sunday for the games, which runs from the 7th – 11th of this month.
Secretary Philip Oyede of the RSFN revealed in a signed statement that former President Joseph Evah and ‘other motivated individuals’ helped to fund the athlete’s travel expenses.
Fifteen countries, including host Egypt, will be represented at the five-day event. Some of the countries are Nigeria, Ghana, and the Benin Republic, with 13 athletes at the championship.
Skaters in the competition will participate in the African Skateboarding Championship, African Inline Speed Championships, African Inline Freestyle Championships, African Rink Hockey Championship, African Inline Downhill Championships, and the African Freestyle Roller Championship.
