Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie is expecting a tough challenge from Cameroon in Friday’s Olympics qualifying fixture and she has urged her teammates not to pay attention to previous results.
The Super Falcons are aiming to book a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games since their last last outing in Beijing back in 2008.
Nigeria defeated Cameroon 1-0 in the quarter-final of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which secured the Super Falcons’ qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
However, Nnadozie believes the key to Super Falcons victory in Douala will be focus, hard work and teamwork.
The Paris FC goalkeeper told FIFA: “The upcoming matches against Cameroon will be pretty difficult. They’ve got a really good side that’s full of experienced players. We’ll need to be wary, but I’ve got a lot of confidence in my team.
“That win [at WAFCON 2022] was great, but we shouldn’t pay too much attention to our previous results against them.
“We’ll have to stay focused, train more intensely, work harder and stick together. If we do all that, we’ll beat them, I suspect.”
Nigeria need to overcome Cameroon’s hurdles to progress into the final qualifying round for the Paris Olympics.
Only two countries will represent Africa in the women’s football event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games later in the summer.
