Usyk ordered to fight Dubois by WBA

The World Boxing Association has called for Oleksandr Usyk to battle British boxer Daniel Dubois in a mandatory world heavyweight title defence.

Usyk, the current WBA “super”, WBO, and IBF champion following back-to-back victories over Anthony Joshua has his eye on a unifying bout against current WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Dubois, who retained his WBA “regular” title with a third-round stoppage win over Kevin Lerena earlier this month after hitting the canvas three times, is set to have a shot at fighting the frightening Ukrainian.

After much debate, it has been agreed that the WBA’s mandatory fight would go on first before the proposed unifying bout between Usyk and the Gypsy King.

The WBC is also hoping to arrange a final eliminator tie between No. 1 challenger Deontay Wilder and No. 2 Andy Ruiz Jr.

In August, the World Boxing Association ordered Usyk to fight Filip Hrgovic after the Croatian defeated China’s Zhang Zhilei but the fight didn’t happen.
