Ogun State receives Torch of Unity ahead of 22nd National Sports Festival

The Governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun on Thursday officially received the Torch of Unity ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, Afrosport reports.

The governor assured that the games will be a reference point in the history of sporting events in the country, and is aimed at fostering togetherness among the participating states.

“This torch represents more than just the start of a sports festival; it symbolises our collective hope and determination to foster unity through the power of sports,” Governor Abiodun stated.

“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and commitment to national integration. We are fully prepared to deliver a befitting and historic festival here in Ogun State.”

The handover ceremony, held at the Gateway City Gate, Interchange-Sagamu road, signalled the final leg of preparations, and the official commencement of the festival, which will officially run from 16-30 May 2025.

Participating states are scheduled to arrive on Friday. 16 May, and Saturday, 17 May, with the grand opening ceremony scheduled for Sunday, 18 May, at the newly-refurbished MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.
