Ethan Nwaneri has described his first UEFA Champions League start for Arsenal as a moment he has lived for his entire life, Afrosport reports.
The Arsenal academy graduate was back in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s trip to Girona after missing much of January with a muscle injury.
The 17-year-old English winger of Nigerian heritage made a good impression in Catalonia by netting the winner towards the end of the first half after going behind for a 2-1 victory and winning the Man of the Match award.
“It’s one of the highest definitely because it’s the Champions League, it’s what I’ve loved and watched since I was young,” Nwaneri told the club website.
“So, to come here and win Man of the Match on my starting debut, It’s a special feeling. I’m happy.
“Listening to the music was surreal, that’s the moment I’ve lived for my whole life. The music was special to me, so that was great. It’s crazy, life moves fast. But I’m happy to be here. This is where I’ve always wanted to be, so I’m grateful that I’m here.”
Seventeen years old. On the biggest stage.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reacting to the performance of Nwaneri said: “I’m really impressed. Making his debut as a Champions League starter today and scoring the goal that he scored, especially in a very important moment. His influence, his composure on the ball and how aggressive he is when he gets it, it’s impressive.”
Nwaneri has scored six goals in 21 appearances in all competitions this season.
