Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has signed a new three-year contract to remain with South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, Chippa United, the club announced on Thursday.
Nwabali, who was recently named to the Super Eagles squad for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, has also been handed the captain’s armband by head coach Kwanele Kopo.
Chippa revealed the news on the club’s official website with a statement that read: “We are pleased to announce that Stanley Nwabali has signed an improved three-year contract with Chippa United FC.
“We are incredibly proud of Stanley’s dedication and commitment to the club. His leadership on and off the field has been exemplary, and we believe he is the right person to guide our team through the challenges ahead. With this being said, Stanley will be our new team captain for the upcoming season.
“We wish Stanley continued success in his career, both in domestic competitions and on the international stage. We look forward to achieving great things together in the seasons to come.”

The 28-year-old, who starred at AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, joined the Chilli Boys from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Katsina United in 2022.
Since then, the bullish shotstopper has played 38 times for Chippa, including 32 matches in the PSL, keeping 13 clean sheets.
Nwabali will be expected to be in between three sticks when the Chilli Boys visit the Orlando Stadium in Soweto to take on the Orlando Pirates on September 14 in the opening weekend of the 2024-25 PSL season.
