Edo State athletes stole the headlines at the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba, winning multiple medals in different events on Friday.
They started their medal haul with Isah Momoh picking up gold after beating Quawan Tijani of Lagos and Emmanuel Gabriel of Delta in the men’s 500m cycling sprint.
Isah went on to claim another gold in the men’s 200m sprint, beating Delta’s Azeez Mutiu.
More cycling medals were won in the women’s 200m sprint, courtesy of Osaretin Godwin. There was also a bronze in the men’s 1km time trial.
In Para-Table Tennis, the quartet of Endurance Obovu, Rachael Obasohan, Rita Peters and Beauty Osariemen won bronze for Edo in the women’s team event class 4&5.
In class 1&3, Ebehitale Eikhenan and Blessing Aiwekho won the silver medal. For the Men’s Class 1, the quartet of Tomide Olowe , Chinedu Ogu , David Omoragbo, and Vincent Ashia won bronze.
Going to Para-Powerlifting, Abosede Bejide lifted won gold in 59kg category.
In Darts, Edo won bronze via Onajite Onuyoh and they also won bronze in the men and women’s Taekwondo Team Poomsae category.
For the Judo event, Remi Adegoke clinched bronze in the men’s 52kg while Daniel Randalstown Stephen took bronze in the men’s 66kg.
Nasarawa State began their hunt for medals at the ongoing 2022 National Sports Festival after winning bronze in the Taekwondo Poomsae individual and team events.
Meanwhile, Imo State claimed their first gold medal of the competition in Para-Table Tennis team event thanks to the duo of Margaret Okoko and Akudo Okoroafor.
Bayelsa State took home gold in Judo after Mathias Selere defeated Precious Okayi of Jigawa State in the women’s 48kg event.
