NSF 2022: Delta’s Ukpeseraye claims eighth cycling gold medal

Ese Ukpeseraye of Delta State added to her impressive medal collection at the 2022 National Sports Festival as she claimed her eighth gold medal in cycling.

She had previously won six individual gold medals in the 200m, 500m, 1km time trial, 80km road race, elimination race and individual time trials as well as the mixed relay and 3km team pursuit events.

Oyo State’s Tawakalt Yekeen took silver while Mary Samuel also of Delta won bronze in the individual time trials.

Abaka Krotimi Odume of Bayelsa won the gold medal in the men’s individual time trials ahead of John Gabriel of Delta and Quadri Ajibade of Oyo State who claimed the silver and bronze medal respectively.

Delta have now won 10 of the 15 available gold medals in cycling while Edo are the next with two gold with Ogun, Rivers and Bayelsa states having one apiece.

In the overall medal count, Delta lead the way with 88 gold, a whopping 76 more than the next-best team in Edo State who have 12 gold. They have the most silver medals (37) while Edo have the most bronze (34).

All medals combined, Delta have 158 while Edo have 68 medals. Oyo and Lagos states have 36 each while Bayelsa have 35, Rivers and Ogun States have 31 medals.
