NPFL: Remo Stars secure away win over 10-man Bayelsa United

NPFL Playoffs: Who are the favourites to be crowned champions?

Remo Stars recorded the biggest result in the third round of fixtures in the 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a 2-1 win away at 10-man Bayelsa United on Sunday.

The Sky Blues had suffered a 2-0 loss at Rivers United in a rescheduled match in midweek but were clearly up to the task in nearby Yenegoa as Olamilekan Adamas gave them the lead in just the fourth minute of play.

Misery was compounded on Bayelsa as Oluwaseun Solomon was shown a straight red card in the 20th minute which gave Remo the numerical advantage on the pitch.

Daniel Ogunmodede’s men increased their lead in the 78th minute thanks to substitute Sikiru Alimi and though Bayelsa got one back via Okorie Ekeson in the 88th minute, it was too little too late.

In other results on Sunday, Rivers United could only play out a goalless draw with Kwara United in Port Harcourt likewise newly-promoted Sporting Lagos at home to Doma United.

There were however homes wins for Enugu Rangers (2-1 against Niger Tornadoes), Enyimba (3-2 against Akwa United), Shooting Stars (2-1 against Gombe United) and Abia Warriors (1-0 against Kano Pillars).

In early games played on Saturday, Bendel Insurance defeated Plateau United 1-0 in Benin City while Sunshine Stars and Heartland played out a 1-1 draw in Akure followed by a goalless affair between Katsina United and Lobi Stars in Katsina.
