The much-anticipated Southwest derby between Remo Stars and Shooting Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League ended in a thrilling 2-0 win for the hosts at the Remo Stars Stadium.
The first 45 minutes was tightly contested, with only a succession of missed chances from Remo Stars’ Olalekan Dayo and Samuel Anakwe as the major talking points.
Daniel Ogunmodede-led team broke the deadlock on the hour-mark when Shooting Stars center-back Otakho Alex aghahowa turned the ball into his own net after an excellent work by Andy Okpe.
Ten minutes later, former Ikorodu City FC forward Godwin Odibo doubled Remo Stars’ lead with a fine finish after he was played through on goal and it was his first goal for the club.
The victory meant Remo Stars moved to the top of Group A and continued their perfect start to the season with three wins from three games.
They also remain the only team in the league yet to concede a goal this term.
Remo Stars will travel to Benin City next to face the high-flying Bendel Insurance, the only other team with a perfect record in the league so far, while the Shooting Stars – who are yet to win a game this season – will face the newly-promoted El-Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.
