Plateau United have confirmed a shake-up in their technical and administrative structure with the appointment of Gbenga Ogunbote as coach and Alhassan Yakmut as acting chairman, as the club looks to turn its season around ahead of the second half of the 2025-26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign, Afrosport reports.
Ogunbote was announced to have resumed duties on Tuesday at the New Jos Stadium. The experienced tactician will oversee the team’s technical affairs until the end of the season, following a disappointing first round that has left Plateau United struggling near the bottom of the league table.

Ogunbote, a familiar figure in the NPFL, has previously managed Shooting Stars, Enyimba, Enugu Rangers, Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars.
He returns to the top flight with the task of reviving Plateau United’s fortunes after a run of poor results under Shola Ayegun.
The club, however, has not clarified Ayegun’s status, leaving uncertainty over whether he will remain part of the technical setup.
Ayegun’s tenure came under increasing pressure as results failed to improve, with fan dissatisfaction boiling over during last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Abia Warriors.
After 19 matches, Plateau United occupy 19th place on the NPFL standings, having recorded six wins, one draw and 12 losses for a total of 19 points.

The club also confirmed the appointment of Alhassan Yakmut as acting chairman, following approval from the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang.
Yakmut, described by the club as a seasoned sports administrator, is expected to provide leadership and strategic direction through the remainder of the season.
