Rivers United returned to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after a 1-0 win against Abia Warriors at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
Ndifreke Effiong scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 58th minute for United’s first win in their last six games, with their last win coming away at Niger Tornadoes on October 21.
The victory moved Finidi George’s men to the top of the table with 25 points after 13 games, two ahead of Remo Stars who relinquished top spot after losing 2-0 to Katsina United courtesy of a brace from Azeez Falolu.
Remo Stars have now failed to score in their last three league games and have only managed one goal in five matches.
