NPFL: IMC fines Shooting Stars over match official’s unruly behaviour

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) has fined Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Shooting Stars N500,000 for failing to prevent their team commandant from urinating on the pitch shortly before their game against Akwa United in Ibadan on Sunday.

The commandant, Auwal Mohammed, has also been banned from all football-related activities for a period of one year for huis ‘unruly act’. Muhammed was the talk of the Nigerian football scene over the weekend as he was seen urinating at the center of the Lekan Salami Stadium.

According to a statement released by the IMC and signed by Davidson Owumi, Head of Operations, NPFL, the league controlling body informed the Oluyole Warriors that Mohammed had breached Rule C1.1 of the Frameworks and Rules of the league under the premise that he “was spotted urinating on the playing pitch, which is a despicable act that is capable of bringing the game into disrepute.”

Shooting Stars were also found guilty of violating Rule C9 of the Framework and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League for their “failure to control the conduct of their official, which resulted in Mr Auwal Mohammed urinating on the playing pitch in full view of the general public,” according to the statement.

In addition to the sanctions, the club was also warned to take appropriate measures to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents in the near future.

They are also required to either submit the summary jurisdiction and the sanctions contained in the statement within 48 hours of the date of the notice, or elect to be dealt with by a disciplinary panel in accordance with Rule C26 of the Frameworks and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The Ibadan-based club drew the game against the Promise Keepers 2-2, with all the goals coming in the first half. They currently sit 7th in Group A with 10 points and will travel to Uyo to face the same opponent when the league resumes in March after a three-week break.
