NPFL: IMC announces new date for Super Six tournament

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Monday, announced a new date for the upcoming Super Six competition.

The Super Six tournament, which will determine the winner of the 2022–23 abridged NPFL season, will take place from June 2nd to June 11th.

Despite the competition already being postponed twice, the IMC reiterated that the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, remains the designated venue of the tournament.

As the name implies, the Super Six tournament will feature the top six sides in the NPFL this season, with three teams each from Groups A and B.

Newcomers and Group A leaders Bendel Insurance, who are the only unbeaten side in the league this season, along with Rivers United, have qualified for the competition.

While the other four teams are yet to be known, the results from matchday 18—the last round of matches in the NPFL this weekend—will determine the final slots.

The winner and second-place team in the Super Six will represent the country at the elite continental club competition, the CAF Champions League, next season, while the third-place team will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
