Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, returned to winning ways with a commanding 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena on Monday, Afrosport reports.
The Sky Blue Stars, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Abia Warriors last Thursday, responded in style thanks to second-half goals from Adama Goita and Alex Oyowah.
The home side had their first real chance in the 15th minute when Olamilekan Adedayo capitalised on a loose ball inside the box, only to fire directly at goalkeeper Okoh Chizoba. Malian export, Goita came close just before halftime, but his effort was also denied by the impressive Wikki shot-stopper.
The second half saw a more dominant display from coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s side, with Wikki Tourists struggling to maintain possession or create chances. The breakthrough finally came in the 79th minute when Adama Goita calmly finished off a precise cross from Ibrahim Abubakar.
The hosts sealed the win in stoppage time. Goalkeeper Chizoba spilled a routine ball inside the area, allowing Alex Oyowah to pounce and slot home the second goal, securing all three points for the reigning champions.
With the result, Remo Stars move up to 9th on the NPFL table and will next travel to Katsina United before a two legged CAF Champions League second preliminary round encounter with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
