NPFL: Ex-Remo Stars coach Osho resigns from Rivers United

Former Remo Stars manager Fatai Osho has announced his resignation from Rivers United as an assistant coach.

Osho had been with the Port Harcourt outfit since 2021, working closely with manager Stanley Eguma. Together, both men led Rivers to their first-ever league title in 2022 as a unified team from the defunct Sharks FC and Dolphins FC.

The duo have also been actively involved in the Pride of Rivers’ continental campaign this season where they have made it to the knockout phase of the CAF Confederation Cup for the very time and will face Young Africans of Tanzania.

“I resigned my position as the Chief Coach of Rivers United FC. Best wishes to the team,” Osho said in a Facebook post.

The reasons for Osho’s resignation are unknown but according to some reports, it is believed he fell out with some members of the club hierarchy who did not accord him his respect.

Osho’s journey in the NPFL began in 2017 when he led Remo Stars to their maiden promotion. He was replaced by Nduka Ugbade but was back in charge after a few games.

Osho could not secure survival for Remo Stars but remained with the club in the Nigeria National League (NNL) until he secured their second promotion in 2019.

He however did not see out the season with them as the club hired Kennedy Boboye in his place.

Osho moved to Enyimba that same year, working as an assistant to Usman Abdallah before taking over in 2020 and was able to lead the People’s Elephant to the quarter-finals of the Confederation Cup that year and in 2021.
