Olanrewaju joined Enyimba as an assistant coach two years ago under former Nigeria international Finidi George, who led the club to NPFL triumph in the 2022-23 season.
He took over the reins in an interim capacity after Finidi became head coach of the Super Eagles, leading the nine-time Nigerian champions to a third-place finish last season, earning them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Olanrewaju, however, has been unable to rekindle the spark from his previous campaign with Enyimba, as the club sits 11th in the NPFL standings with 23 points after 15 matches played.
The Aba-based club are without a win in their last nine matches in all competitions, including a goalless draw away at Plateau United on Boxing Day.
Enyimba are also at risk of elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, where they lie bottom of Group D with only one point after three matches following defeats to Al Masry and Black Bulls.
The Peoples’ Elephants are in action on Tuesday, 31 December, against Bendel Insurance and will be hoping to grab a win so as to turn their season around.
