NPFL: Akwa Utd continue winning record against Remo Stars

Akwa United maintained their unbeaten record over Remo Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League with a 3-1 victory at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The Promise Keepers have never lost against the Ikenne-based side, with three wins and a draw in their previous four games.

United’s Cyril Olisema ensured it remained that way by converting his spotkick in the fifth minute put the home team ahead.

Qudus Akanni levelled proceedings for Remo before the half-hour mark, but Uche Collins restored United’s lead just before the halftime break.

Remo Stars were reduced to 10-men after the restart as Andy Okpe was sent off for his second bookable offense. Five minutes later, Akwa United capitalised on the numerical advantage as Olalere Segun turned Olisema’s solo effort into his own net.

The win was United’s third of the season and the second time they have scored three goals in a league game this season. Despite the defeat, Remo remain second in Group A with 12 points while Akwa United also remain fourth with 10points.

In Aba, Enyimba overcame the El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 thanks to a first-half brace from the in-form Chukwuemeka Obioma.

The forward bagged his second brace of the season after his double in Enyimba’s 3-0 win over Kwara United in Janaury, taking his tally for the season to four goals.

The Aba Warriors have now won three games this season, and they returned to winning ways following their painful lone-goal defeat to Remo on Wednesday.

Newly-promoted Doma United won just their second game of the season in a shocking 2-1 victory over defending champions Rivers United.

Ndasi Kadiang put Rivers in front with a glancing header in the 25th minute, but Usman Musa drew the Savannah Tigers level just nine minutes later.

Musa completed his side’s comeback with a header in the 68th minute to hand their Port Harcourt-based opponent their first defeat of the season.

Wikki Tourists won their first game of the season and the first since head coach Kabiru Dogo resigned.

They defeated seven-time champions Enugu Rangers 1-0 thanks to Abubakar Ibrahim’s first-half stoppage time goal.

Despite the win, Tourists remain rooted to the bottom of Group B, while Rangers are seventh with 5 points and three defeats from six games.
