Super Eagles

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho are notable omissions in Nigeria’s squad for their upcoming international friendly matches against Mexico and Ecuador.

The three-time African champions are scheduled to play World Cup-bound Mexico at the AT&T Stadium in Texas on May 29 before travelling to New Jersey to battle Ecuador who are also heading to Qatar on June 3.

The games are expected to boost the Super Eagles’ preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that will begin with a home fixture against Sierra Leone at the MKO Abiola Stadium on June 6.

Nigeria are yet to appoint a new head coach after the dismissal of interim coach Austin Egauvoen in March, but Yusuf Salisu alongside Finidi George and Ike Shorunmu have been announced as assistant coaches.
